Looking for More Flexibility Without Giving Up School Connections?
For some families, a traditional classroom is the perfect fit. For others, life circumstances, learning styles, family schedules, or personal preferences create a need for something different.
You may love the idea of learning from home but worry your child will miss out on friendships, teacher support, and the sense of belonging that comes from being part of a school community.
That’s where the Oakland Bridge Program comes in.
Oakland Bridge is a tuition-free hybrid learning program from Oakland Academy that combines the flexibility of at-home learning with the support, structure, and connection of a school community. Designed for students in grades K–8, the program offers families a different path to educational success.
What Is the Oakland Bridge Program?
The Oakland Bridge Program allows students to complete their daily coursework from home while remaining connected to Oakland Academy through weekly on-campus experiences and ongoing teacher support.
Students receive:
- Flexible virtual learning from home
- Weekly on-site connection days
- Support from a certified Oakland Academy teacher
- A structured partnership between families and educators
- Access to a state-aligned curriculum
- A tuition-free public school education
The goal is simple: give families the flexibility they want without sacrificing the support students need.
How Does Oakland Bridge Work?
Students complete their core academic coursework from home using a trusted online learning platform. A parent or guardian serves as the student’s Learning Coach, helping maintain routines, monitor progress, and support daily learning.
Each student is assigned a certified Oakland Academy teacher who provides guidance, monitors progress, and helps ensure students stay on track academically. Regular communication between teachers and families creates a strong support system for student success.
In addition to at-home learning, students attend Oakland Academy once each week for in-person connection days focused on:
- Social development
- Hands-on learning activities
- Elective opportunities
- Academic enrichment
- Relationship building with peers and staff
This combination creates a balanced educational experience that supports both academic growth and social-emotional development.
Who Is the Oakland Bridge Program Designed For?
Every child learns differently.
The Oakland Bridge Program may be a good fit for families who:
Want More Flexibility
Some families need a schedule that allows for travel, extracurricular activities, medical needs, family commitments, or simply a more personalized daily routine.
Prefer a Home-Based Learning Environment
Many students thrive when they can learn in a familiar environment with fewer distractions and greater flexibility throughout the day.
Want More Involvement in Their Child’s Education
The Learning Coach model gives parents an active role in supporting their child’s educational journey while still receiving guidance from certified teachers.
Want the Best of Both Worlds
Families often tell us they love the flexibility of home learning but don’t want to lose the friendships, support, and experiences that come from being connected to a school community.
Oakland Bridge was designed to provide both.
What Are the Benefits of Hybrid Learning?
Hybrid learning continues to grow because it offers something many families are seeking: balance.
Students benefit from:
Personalized Learning
Students can move through lessons in a way that supports their individual learning needs and pace.
Strong Family Partnerships
Parents gain greater visibility into their child’s learning while working closely with teachers throughout the year.
School Connection
Weekly in-person experiences help students develop friendships, build confidence, and remain connected to a larger learning community.
Teacher Support
Students are never expected to navigate learning alone. Dedicated teachers provide guidance, encouragement, and academic oversight throughout the school year.
Is Oakland Bridge Still Part of Oakland Academy?
Absolutely.
Students enrolled in Oakland Bridge remain Oakland Academy students.
They benefit from the same commitment to student success, individualized support, and family-centered approach that Oakland Academy has provided to families for years. Oakland Academy is known for its small-school atmosphere, personalized attention, and strong relationships between students, families, and staff.
The Oakland Bridge Program simply offers an additional pathway for families looking for a more flexible educational experience.
